Chengdi was the firstborn son of the Chinese emperor Han Yuandi and his wife Wang Zhengjun (aunt of Wang Mang ). In 33 BC He ascended the throne of the Empire of China as the successor to Han Yuandi. Chengdi was married twice and had two sons, both of whom were murdered during his lifetime. In addition to his two wives Xu and Zhao Feiya, Chengdi had several concubines, including Ban Jieyu . She bore the emperor two sons, but both of them died in childhood. In 18 BC Their rivals Zhao Feiya and Zhao Heda accused Ban Jieyu and Empress Xu of witchcraft, after which Xu was rejected by Chengdi. Ban Jieyu, despite Cheng's grace, decided not to be his mistress any longer, and became a maid of honor to his mother Wang Zhengjun. His successor was his nephew Han Aidi .
