The Hanauer Hof in Herborn is a street in the old town.

Geographical location

The street is located in the southern part of the old town of Herborn and branches off to the west from the Kornmarkt , one of the main squares in the old town of Herborn, at the Kornmarkt 22 building. This was formerly the Herborn synagogue . The street, which is only about 60 meters long, joins the street “Mühlbach” at the other end.

history

The street Hanauer Hof and its first development were created in the first half of the 18th century by clearing a backyard situation in the back of the surrounding buildings. Four day laborer's houses were built here. The street was then called “Hinter'm Kornmarkt”.

From 1759, the name is then Hanauer Hof used after from Hanau coming pipe makers had settled here. An Andreas Knecht and a Johann Heinrich Knecht are known by name . The former came to Herborn in 1713, the latter in 1718 to practice their craft here. When Johann Heinrich Knecht died in 1776, he left behind, among other things, a house on Kornmarkt.

In terms of traffic, the street Hanauer Hof is now a residential street . From here there is access to the mikveh of the former synagogue via a side entrance in the Kornmarkt 22 building .
