The Handbuch der Magie by Jochen Zmeck is the first German-language book after the Second World War that systematically deals with learning the art of magic .

In 39 chapters, the author gives a step-by-step course that begins with a well thought-out division of the art of magic into different areas and ends with an extensive collection of technical terms. In doing so, the author relies on the analyzes of the American specialist author Dariel Fitzkee , who as early as 1943 divided the principles of magic into a total of 13 categories in his work "The Trick Brain".

The manual of magic experienced several editions up to 1990. This book is a basic requirement for attaining membership in the magic association.
