The Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia is a corporation under public law . The legal basis is the law on the order of the craft . The Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia has around 18,500 member companies with around 95,000 employees; in 2017 they generated a total turnover of 10.3 billion euros. The apprenticeship quota, the share of apprentices in all employees, was 8.2% in 2017. The headquarters are in Würzburg.

Central areas of the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia are “ self-administration ”, “representation of interests” and “ services ”. It also performs sovereign tasks on behalf of the state . Among other things, she is responsible for the handicraft role , the apprentice role and regulates the examination system. One of the tasks of the Chamber of Crafts is a joint and solidary representation of the concerns of all craftsmen in politics and the public. The Chamber of Crafts offers advice to its member companies and supports them, employees and apprentices as well as young people and their parents in the field of training and further education. Courses are offered in the training centers of the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia.

The member companies of the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia send their representatives to the plenary assembly, which consists of 48 people. 32 general assembly members represent the self-employed, 16 are employee representatives. The members of the plenary assembly are elected by general, equal and secret ballot. The election for the general assembly takes place for five years.

The general assembly in turn elects the board from among its members. The board of directors of the Chamber of Crafts consists of the chairman (president), who must be the owner or representative of a company in a craft or craft-like trade (employer representative), two deputies (vice-presidents), one of whom is a journeyman or another employee who has completed vocational training (employee representative) must be, and nine other members, namely six self-employed traders and three employee representatives. The term of office of the board depends on the electoral period of the general assembly.

The general manager and, if necessary, other managers are elected by the general assembly. The election requires the approval of the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology .

The Chamber of Crafts is represented externally by the President and the General Manager. The chief executive is the supreme superior of all chamber employees.

In 1899 the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior ordered the establishment of a Chamber of Crafts in Würzburg, together with two departments in Aschaffenburg and Schweinfurt, which still act as branches of the Chamber of Crafts today. The constituent meeting of the Lower Franconian Chamber of Crafts took place on June 5, 1900 in Würzburg. In 1926, the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia moves from previously rented rooms into its own building (laying of the foundation stone on August 22, 1925; architect: Otto Leitolf, heads in the main facade: Ludwig Sonnleitner) on Rennweger Ring in Würzburg, where the Headquarters is located.

Shortly before the end of the Second World War, the building was almost completely destroyed during an attack by the Allies on March 16, 1945 . In 1949 the reconstruction of the chamber building was completed, in the meantime the operation has been temporarily maintained at different locations. In 1952, the Chamber of Crafts laid the foundation stone for today's education center in the Zellerau district of Würzburg. The Aschaffenburg Education Center followed in 1976 and the Schweinfurt Vocational Training Center eleven years later. In 2004 the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia opened the competence center for energy technology in Würzburg. The Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia has maintained a close partnership with the Caen Chamber of Crafts in the French Calvados department since 1966. In 1992 the Chamber of Crafts established partnership relationships with the Istanbul Chamber of Crafts in Turkey. Since 2000 there has also been a partnership with the Chamber of Crafts in Pomerania / Danzig.

Educational centers

The Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia is one of the largest educational institutions in the Lower Franconia region. In the three training centers in Würzburg, Schweinfurt and Aschaffenburg, in addition to master courses , inter-company training courses , career orientation courses for schoolchildren and other courses and seminars are held. The Würzburg training center is commercially and technically oriented. The focal points include the areas of beauty and wellness, food, motor vehicles, wood, sanitary, heating, air conditioning and energy technology. The training center in Schweinfurt mainly offers further training in the field of metal construction such as welding, CAD technology and metal construction technology.

The precision mechanics department is the focus of the Aschaffenburg education center. The offer mainly includes courses for computer-controlled machine tools (CNC), computer-aided design (CAD), quality management of metalworking companies (QM) and advanced training to become a master precision mechanic. The competence center for energy technology in Würzburg specializes in seminars and training courses on the subject of "renewable energies", the academy for corporate management in the areas of corporate management and EDP / IT. In addition to traditional face-to-face teaching , the Academy for Business Management also offers extra- occupational training courses in flexible blended learning and online form.

The Schweinfurt Vehicle Academy focuses on the further training of specialists and managers for vehicle-related trades. The courses are divided into subject areas such as “Passenger Cars and Commercial Vehicles”, “Body and Vehicle Construction” , “Classic Car Restoration”, “Two-Wheelers (Motorcycles, Pedelecs and Bicycles)”, “Agricultural and Construction Machinery” or “Caravan Service”.

Subsidiaries

The Handwerkskammer Service GmbH, the Society for Professional Development (GbF) Schweinfurt and the GbF Aschaffenburg are subsidiaries of the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia. All three are committed to the goal of qualifying young people and adults for a professional activity, preparing them for starting their careers, advising and supporting them.
