Hans-Peter Reichl

Hans-Peter Reichel (also Peter Reichl ; born May 7, 1955 in Solingen ) is a German disabled athlete . His greatest success was the silver medal in the three-keel boat sailing competition at the 2000 Summer Paralympics .

Life

Peter Reichl was born in Solingen. He learned to be a car mechanic . He drove motorcycle races . After a racing accident in Czechoslovakia in 1989, he is paraplegic .

In 1992 he married his wife Gesine, who, as a physiotherapist, accompanied the German national sailing team as a supervisor and classifier at the Paralympic Games four times. Between 1999 and 2004, Reichl competed several times in the German championship and in world championships in the sonar boat class . In 1999 he became world champion in his class. His best result at open world championships was 43rd place in 2003. At the 1999 International German Championships, he reached 1st place. He started for the yacht club Berlin-Gründau .

In addition to sailing, he played wheelchair basketball at TV Donrath from 1990 to the 2nd Bundesliga .

Since the Summer Paralympics 2000 , the three- seater keelboat in the Sonar boat class has been a competition in sailing . In this first competition he won the silver medal in the boat with helmsman Jens Kroker and Peter Münter . At the 2004 Summer Paralympics , he and his team, with Kroker as helmsman and Olaf Jacobs , achieved fourth place in the same type of boat . Reichl blamed Kroker for losing a medal due to wrong decisions and ended his professional sailing career.

Reichl is retired and lives in his hometown of Solingen.
