The Hans-Werner-Richter-Haus is a museum with a library in the seaside resort of Bansin on the island of Usedom in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It houses the estate of the Usedom writer Hans Werner Richter . Richter achieved notoriety above all as the initiator of the group 47 writers' association .

History of the house

The writer Hans Werner Richter was born on November 12, 1908 in Neu Sallenthin near Bansin, the son of a fisherman. He and his six siblings grew up not far from today's museum. In his works, for example in traces in the sand (1953) or in stories from Bansin (1982), he describes his place of birth Bansin. The museum is located in a former fire station, the so-called syringe house, which was inaugurated in 1904. In 2000 the fire brigade building was converted into a memorial to Hans Werner Richter.

Richter's study with the original typewriter

Toni Richter, the widow of Hans Werner Richter, bequeathed substantial parts of the private estate to the community of Bansin after his death in 1993. The two-story house houses the estate. Richter's study with the original typewriter and his library are on display. Since the death of the Ahlbeck-born writer and publicist Carola Stern in 2006, part of the exhibition in the Hans-Werner-Richter-Haus has been commemorating the writer. In Gunter Grass are issued -room, in the original drawings and graphics of the Literature Nobel Prize winner, regular readings, lectures, concerts and children's events take place.
