Hans-Werner Ludwig

Hans-Werner Ludwig (* 1934 ) is a German English scholar and literary scholar .

Life

Hans-Werner Ludwig obtained his Abitur at the Julianum High School in 1955. He then studied English, literature and Protestant theology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and received his doctorate in 1962 with the dissertation “The self-composites with Thomas Carlyle, Matthew Arnold and Gerard Manley Hopkins ". In 1973 he became full professor of English philology and literary studies in Tübingen and was the rector of the university from 1995 to 1999. In 1993, 2000 and 2003 Ludwig was visiting professor at the University of Washington in Seattle . In 2000 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class.

Hans-Werner Ludwig retired in 2002.
