Life

He was a son of Bernolph von Gemmingen († 1609) and Anna von Grumbach († 1607). When his father's inheritance was divided, he received Widdern and Maienfels in 1629, while Bürg and Presteneck fell to his brother Eberhard († 1632). He lived in Widdern for a time, where the Gemmingen house was still under construction in 1629 and where he acquired two herb gardens, which he swapped with his brother Hans Philipp († 1635) when he moved to Maienfels .

family

He was married to Ursula Katharina von Grumbach, who died on August 22, 1607 without any children arising from the one-year marriage. In 1614 he went into a second marriage with Sibylla Maria von Helmstatt (1586–1663). When he died, the children who had survived him were all minors and placed under guardianship. Son Philipp Christoph inherited Maienfels, but died in 1660 without heirs, so that the property in Widdern and Maienfels was again concentrated on the younger son Hans Albrecht (1624–1685).
