Hans Hartmann (cyclist)
Hans Hartmann (* in Schwabach ) was a German racing cyclist .
Hans Hartmann was a professional racing cyclist from 1909 to 1913. His specialty was long-distance driving. In 1908 he finished second in the 620-kilometer Basel – Cleve and in 1910 third. Also in 1910 he won around Spessart and Rhön .
His most successful year was 1911: First, he achieved the greatest success of his career with victory in the distance cycling trip from Vienna to Berlin . In the same year he took third place in the overall ranking of the round trip across Germany , a forerunner of the Germany Tour. His brother Thomas won a stage and was seventh overall. He also won Nuremberg-Plauen-Nuremberg, came second in Nuremberg-Munich-Nuremberg and third in each case in Munich-Zurich and Zurich-Munich. In 1912 he was second again at Nuremberg – Munich – Nuremberg.
Hartmann drove an Opel bike, and his victory at Vienna-Berlin was marketed by the company by producing a model with the same name as the race. Also Fichtel & Sachs , supplier of Opel, called his new freewheel coaster brake after this race over 580 kilometers. From 1909 to 1911 Hartmann was also supported by Continental .
