Hans Kumpfmüller

Hans Kumpfmüller (* 1953 ) is an Upper Austrian writer, columnist and photographer. He is currently one of the most successful and productive dialect writers in the Bavarian language area and an important representative of Bavarian dialect literature . As someone who lives in the Innviertel and therefore lives on the (linguistic) border between the western and eastern variants of the Middle Bavarian dialect , it is equally easy to understand and read for Austrians and Bavarians. Kumpfmüller is a proponent of a consistent phonetic spelling of Bavarian.

After he had been concerned with his homeland and the Innviertel dialect for a long time and had repeatedly published smaller pieces, his first book Goidhaum & Logahauskabbe (High German: Goldhaube & Lagerhauskappe ) brought his breakthrough in 1997 .

He lives and works in Sankt Georgen near Obernberg am Inn , which is right on the border with Lower Bavaria . In his work he criticizes the double standards of politicians and those in power, but also the stubbornness of his fellow Innviertel residents. He writes against the methods of industrialized agriculture and the divided relationship between Austrians and their own language and the Bavarian dialect.

In addition to his work as a book author, he also writes a weekly column in the "Rieder Volkszeitung", an Innviertel weekly supplement of the Austrian daily newspaper "OÖ. Nachrichten". In addition, he is often on the move - taking photos and writing - at home and abroad, for example in Romania and the Ukraine, where he followed in the footsteps of Austrians who emigrated in earlier times.

Since 2014 his works have been published in the Edition Panoptikum Aspach.
