Hans Wyss (veterinarian)

Hans Wyss (* 1960 in Schönbühl ) is a Swiss veterinarian and has been director of the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office in Switzerland since 2014 .

Life

After studying veterinary medicine at the University of Bern from 1979 to 1984, he was an assistant at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bern from 1985 to 1987. He also earned his studies as a freelance journalist. In 1987 he was awarded a Dr. med. vet. PhD. From 1987 to 1990 he worked as a sports journalist for the radio in German and Rhaeto-Romanic Switzerland, then from 1991 to 1992 as a partner in a rural veterinary practice.

In 1993 Hans Wyss became deputy canton veterinarian for the canton of Bern. In 1999 he joined the Federal Veterinary Office as the person responsible for communications. From 2003 to 2013 he was its director; since 2014 from the new Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office . Hans Wyss is married. He has two children and lives in the Bern region.
