Happy people
Happy People is a 1974 song released by the group The Temptations . Lionel Richie was involved in the writing of the song. The song was originally supposed to be released by the group The Commodores . The song was the first single from The Temptations' album A Song for You . In the United States, the single was # 1 on the R&B charts and # 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 . Happy People ranked 11th on the disco / dance charts.
Happy People was a new beginning for The Temptations in many ways. It was the first single from an album in which a song was heard without the group The Funk Brothers , the former studio band of Motown . Instead, the group The Commodores took care of the background music. The Commodores also wrote the music for the album since Norman Whitfield had left Motown. That made Happy People the Temptations' first non-Whitfield single since 1972 Mother Nature . Also was Happy People , the first single from All I Need from 1967, which was not produced by Whitfield; this role was taken over by Jeffrey Bowen .
On the B-side of the single was the instrumental version of the song. This was actually a B-side of The Commodores. Happy People was the last single from The Temptations where the B-side was the instrumental version of the A-side. This had previously been the case with the singles Papa Was a Rollin 'Stone and Masterpiece . The instrumental version of Happy People , like the sung version, was released on the album A Song For You .
