Harald Haas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harald Haas (* 1968 in Neustadt an der Aisch ) is a German computer scientist. His specialty is data transmission using light, Li-Fi .

life and work

Harald Haas received his PhD from Edinburgh University in 2001 . From 1998 to 2001 he was a research fellow and Nokia consultant at Edinburgh University, where he researched interference, range and capacity problems and dynamic channel assignment algorithms (DCA) for TDD-based 3G cellular systems. In February 2001, Haas joined Siemens AG, Information and Communication Mobile Networks , where he headed a joint research project between Chinese and German universities. He led and led research on potential 4G technologies such as multicarrier transmission, link adaptation, ad hoc communication, MIMO techniques and DCA algorithms for TDD-based cellular systems.

Haas has been an Associate Professor at the International University Bremen (IUB) since September 2002.

His research interests are the joint optimization of physical layer and system layer techniques for TDD-based enhanced 3G and 4G systems. Haas holds multiple patents and has published numerous peer-reviewed conference and magazine papers. He lectured in more than 200 publications, including 50 articles in magazines, his own book and 4 book chapters at Wiley & Sons / Econ Verlag / InTech, as well as numerous articles on the Internet. His TED video Wireless data from each light bulb has been viewed more than 1,000,000 times (as of May 15, 2012). Haas has received 23 patents and as many patent applications.

Awards

Haas received the Best Paper Award at the International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Communications (PIMRC) in 1999 and was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the University of Edinburgh in 2001.

In his role as a technical consultant, Haas was nominated for the 2011 World Technology Award in New York.
