Harald Piron (born May 31, 1967 in Cologne ) is a German psychotherapist and meditation researcher .

Life

Piron studied psychology at the University of Trier , worked in a practice for psychiatry and psychotherapy in Leverkusen from 1993 to 1998 and completed various psychotherapy trainings (including rational-emotional therapy according to Albert Ellis , psychosynthesis according to Roberto Assagioli and behavioral therapy ). Since 1999 he has been a licensed , resident psychotherapist with health insurance approval for behavioral therapy. In 2003 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Meditation and its meaning for mental health , in which the development and validation of the construct "Meditation Depth" and the Meditation Depth Questionnaire (MTF) as well as an empirical study on the effects of meditation on personal development and mental health are documented. Piron was able to prove that there is a cross-traditional and method-independent dimension of meditative depth that spans and integrates a spectrum of five depths.

Act

Piron and Klaus Engel founded the Society for Meditation and Meditation Research (SMMR eV) in Cologne, of which he has been a board member since 2000. From 2004 to 2016 he was its first chairman, and in 2017 he became first deputy chairman. The SMMR is a non-profit, interdisciplinary scientific association that advocates a scientific, cross-methodological, interdenominational and transcultural understanding of meditation, promotes the dialogue between the traditions as well as between researchers, experts and meditators and the basic and applied research on relaxation methods , Meditation and yoga supported. Since 2003 he has also been a permanent member of the editorial board of the scientific journal Transpersonal Psychologie und Psychotherapie , which was renamed Consciousness Sciences in 2011 . Based on his empirical studies on the depths of meditation and consciousness, as well as on the neuroscientific findings on neuroplasticity , the ability to integrate and transform the human brain and spirit, in particular for vertical integration according to evolution, he developed and founded transpersonal behavioral therapy and the relevant German College for Transpersonal Psychology and Psychotherapy (DKTP).
