Harleckinz was an English-speaking Berlin hip-hop group. Her most famous songs were What Time Is It? and Berlin Love .

history

In 1991 Big Sal (Markus Oergel alias Biggs, alias Montana), Doubleface (Jan Zech), Boogieman (later Mr. Knight) and DJ Jester founded the group Harleckinz. They had already worked together under the name Pure Science the previous year. They chose the band name to express that they want to entertain the audience just like the character Harlequin .

First, the Harleckinz tried to establish themselves in the United States, where they appeared as the opening act for various American groups and also received positive reviews, but could not negotiate a contract with a label. Instead, they finally released the EP The Levels Below , which contained five songs, on their own in 1995 and concentrated on the German market. The following year, Harleckinz songs appeared on the compilations 3 Years In Rugged Hip Hop and Griots .

At the end of 1996, DJ Jester left the group. At this time the Harleckinz founded the hip-hop crew Kinzmen Clikk (KMC) together with Kinzmania, who had previously appeared as their opening act. TRIPLE-X Production and KC Da Rookee were added later. Triple X's DJ Perez became Harleckinz's permanent DJ.

At the end of 1998 the Harleckinz signed with Superior Records / WEA Records . The following year her singles What Time is it? (Zeitgeist 2000) and Berlin Love , both of which made it into the German Top 40 singles. Berlin Love was produced by DJ Desue . In August 2000 the Harleckinz released their debut album Now we're taIKIN ' .

After the KMC album Kinzdom Come (2002), the group including Harleckinz became quiet. Founding member Big Sal now pursued his own projects such as the Weddinger underground label Shok Muzik. On June 15, 2011, he died of bone cancer at the age of 35.
