About the choir

The choir was founded in 1906 by 11 men and today consists of around 75 singers between the ages of 14 and 84.

One of the co-founders of the choir was Ferdinand Dernbach, who directed the choir for many years and also made a contribution to the choral tradition of the town of Lindenholzhausen.

The choir's repertoire includes international choral music of all styles, including works of classical vocal polyphony, romanticism , the twentieth century and contemporary choral works. As a non-profit choir community, the singers feel obliged to both regional culture and international cultural exchange.

The choir completed numerous concert tours and took part in international music festivals a. a. in Egypt, England, Latvia, Russia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Wales, Austria and the USA. The choir performed in internationally renowned venues such as the Cologne Philharmonic , the Alte Oper Frankfurt , the Rhein-Mosel-Halle Koblenz , the Cairo Opera House , the St. Petersburg Philharmonic , the Kaiserdom Speyer , the Konstantinbalsilika Trier , the Coventry Cathedral , Nicholas Church in Prague, in the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and in the United Nations building in New York. This also includes appearances in front of top politicians or z. B. 2007 at the international soccer match between Germany and Wales in Frankfurt's Waldstadion .

The choir has won many prizes at Hessian, national and international competitions.

The choir has been organizing its own international festival since 1981 and cultivating international contacts.

Choirs and Activities

In addition to the male choir, the association also offers a variety of activities for young people. Starting with early musical education and the “Young Harmonists” children's and youth choir, the children and young people are introduced to singing in a choir in an age-appropriate manner. In 2016, a women's choir called “Vocal Girls” started for women.

Since 1967 the choir has had its own youth club for the youth of the association and as a newcomer for the male choir.

Harmony Festival

The Harmonie Festival is an international festival at which over 1,500 choirs and folklore groups with over 45,000 participants from around 60 countries have performed. The festival has up to 20,000 visitors annually.

The foundation stone for the festival was laid in 1957 and 1959 with the choir's first two trips to the International Musical Eisteddfod , a song, folklore and music festival in Llangollen , Welsh . Inspired by the idea there, the singers of the choir decided in 1981 to organize their own international choir and folklore festival in Lindenholzhausen. The patronage was the then Prime Minister Holger Börner . Further festivals followed in 198, 1993, 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. The events from 1987 to 2011 were under the patronage of the respective Federal Chancellor. 220 choirs and folklore groups from 52 nations with a total of around 6,000 participants in 15 different choir categories took part in the 7th Festival 2017. The Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier was the patron .
