Harmonious pendulum

As harmonious pendulum is called in the harmony a repeated successive repetition of a chord connection . A starting chord advances to a second chord and is returned to the former. A pendulum often consists of the tonic and the dominant , sometimes the subdominant . The bass line is decisive for the creation of the pendulum .

The harmonic pendulum is mostly used to establish or reinforce a key and is often used at the beginning or at the end of a piece. It is often found in folk music , but is also sometimes used in art music.
