Foam board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A foam sheet is a sheet made of solidified foam (usually polyvinyl chloride , polystyrene or polyurethane ). Such panels are characterized by high strength combined with low weight and good insulating properties .

Foam panels are used in the construction industry ( thermal insulation ) as well as in trade fair and shop fitting (as a partition or image carrier ), sometimes with a cardboard top layer.

Plate types

A distinction is made between hard foam panels and lightweight foam panels (sometimes also referred to as hard material panels and soft material panels). Rigid foam panels are much denser in their structure and therefore less sensitive to moisture and impact, so that they are primarily used outdoors or in a damp environment. Lightweight foam panels are mainly used for short-term use at trade fairs and for presentations. Occasionally, hard foam panels are also referred to as lightweight foam panels or light material panels due to their low weight. Foam panels in trade fair and shop construction are predominantly 1, 3, 5 or 10 mm thick. In the building industry, thermal insulation made of EPS rigid foam up to 400 mm is available.

brand names

Well-known brand names of foam sheets are Styropor ®, Styrodur ®, Neopor ®, Forex ® , Kapa ® and Trovitex.

Foam types

Polyvinyl chloride

Polyvinyl chloride / PVC foam is used as a sandwich material in fiber composite technology. Areas of application are sport boats, rotor blades for wind turbines and wagon construction. Foamed PVC in sheet form (Coplast, Forex, Vikupor, Simopor, Kömatex, Vekaplan) is used as a carrier material for advertising media, such as plotted lettering, images and graphics, primarily because of its low weight and easy processing.

Polystyrene

Polystyrene foam is used for thermal insulation of buildings. Due to the low moisture absorption, it can also be used as perimeter insulation and in inverted roofs . Well-known trade names: Austrotherm (Austria), Hungarocell (Hungary), Floormate, Jackodur, Lustron, Roofmate, Styropor , Styrodur, Styrofoam (USA), Sagex (Switzerland) and Telgopor (Spanish-speaking countries).

Polyurethane

Polyurethane foam is used as a construction adhesive, hard thermal insulation, and much more.
