Harun (Tulunids)

Harun ibn Chumarawaih ibn Ahmad ( Arabic هارون بن خمارويه بن أحمد, DMG Hārūn b. Ḫumārawaya b. Aḥmad ; † December 30, 904 ) was the fourth ruler of the Tulunids in Egypt . He ruled from 896 to 904.

Harun succeeded his brother Abu l-Asakir , who had been overthrown by the army seminars. He left the government largely to the vizier Abu Jafar ibn Ali and indulged in a dissolute, wasteful life. As a result, the rule of the Tulunids increasingly got into a crisis, as the state finances could not be restructured and the army semires seized more and more power.

The Abbasids took advantage of this decline and attacked Syria in 904. Since the troops of the Tulunids had deserted , they were also able to penetrate the Nile valley . Harun was killed on December 30, 904 in riots between troops. Successor and last ruler of the Tulunids was his uncle Shaiban (904–905).
