Haselau (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Haselau (also: Haselow ) was the name of an old Holstein noble family . The coat of arms is not known.

history

The Haselau were a knightly noble family from Holstein and appeared in several documents from the Schauenburg sovereigns . The first documentary mention was in 1224 in a sales contract. They were descended from the "von Aspern" family, but they were not a special sex, but were instead employed by the Knights of Haseldorf as servants. The Knights Haselau owned a castle in Haselau that was surrounded by a large moat . Later it was owned by the Knights of Haseldorf and the Knights of Barmstede, and in the 14th century it was owned by various nobles from the Bredenfleth family . The castle was abandoned at the beginning of the 15th century, today only the remains of the castle and the moat are reminiscent of the noble family.

They were closely related to the von Barmstede family. The last mention was in 1276 with Heinrich von Haselau, the family died out in the 13th century.
