Haspelmath Tower and reconstructed remains of the city wall

The Haspelmath Tower in Hameln , built around 1450, is one of the former 22 towers of the medieval city fortifications of Hameln . Besides the powder tower, it is the only remaining tower. The city wall between the two towers was rebuilt in the 1990s as a reconstruction.

The Haspelmath Tower was named after the Hamelin citizen and veterinarian Friedrich Haspelmath (1790-1856) who bought the tower. He had it prepared and in it exhibited the collections he had assembled on trips to the Mediterranean region and the Orient. The Haspelmath Tower was Hameln's first private museum .
