Hassan Yousef

Sheikh Hassan Yousef ( Arabic حسن يوسف, DMG Ḥasan Yūsuf ; born 1955 in Ramallah ) is a Palestinian Muslim Brother and co-founder of Hamas .

Life

Sheikh Hassan Yousef studied religion in Jerusalem when he was young. He graduated from the age of 18 and moved to Ramallah where he worked as an imam. In the mid-1970s, Yousef went to Jordan to study Islam more thoroughly. It was there that he came into contact with the Muslim Brotherhood for the first time .

Hassan Yousef returned to Palestine in 1977 and began breathing new life into the Muslim Brotherhood. He was supported by Ibrahim Abu l-Salem , one of the founders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan. In the same year Yousef married his sister. Two years later, his first son, Mosab Hassan Yousef , was born, who was an important informant for the Israeli domestic secret service Schin Bet from 1997 to 2007 and has lived in the USA since 2007.

In 1985 the Yousef family moved to al-Bira and Hassan Yousef became an imam in the al-Amari refugee camp. In 1986, Sheikh Hassan Yousef founded Hamas during a secret meeting with 6 other people. In September 1987 Yousef became a religion teacher at a Christian private school in the West Bank .

From 2006 to August 3, 2011, he was in Israeli detention for his activities during the Second Intifada . In the course of Ramadan - amnesty , he was released before he was arrested again after four weeks.

Hassan Yousef was detained from October 2015 to August 2017 and was arrested and detained again along with 31 other Palestinians in December 2017.

  • Suheib Jussef, worked from Turkey for the Hamas political arm before moving to Southeast Asia in 2019. He also did intelligence work for Hamas, such as wiretapping leaders of the Palestinian Authority and Fatah.
