Hatoyama Hideo ( Japanese 鳩 山 秀 夫 ; born February 7, 1884 in Tōkyō ; died January 29, 1946 ) was a Japanese legal scholar.

Live and act

Hatoyama Hidoe was the second son of the politician and lawyer Hatoyama Kazuo and the younger brother of Hatoyama Ichirō . He graduated from Tōkyō University with honors in 1908 . In 1910 he became an assistant professor at his alma mater. From 1911 to 1916 he continued his education in France and Germany. After his return he became a professor and taught civil law until 1926.

After leaving the university he became a lawyer and from 1932 a member of the House of Commons . His representation of civil law in the German tradition exerted great influence in Japan during the Taishō period .

Hatoyama's publication includes

  • "A General Introduction to the Right to Bonds in Japan" (日本 債 権 法 総 論, Nihon saiken-hō sōron) from 1918,
  • "Investigations into civil law" (民法 研究, Mimpō kenkyū) 1929,
  • "Principles of trust and honesty in the law of obligations" (債 権 法 に お け る 信義 誠 実 の 原則, Saiken-hō ni okeru shingi seijitsu no gensoku), 1955.
