Howitzer 210/22

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 210/22 howitzer is an Italian field gun of the Second World War that was developed and produced by the armaments company Ansaldo .

history

In 1938, Italian engineers developed the 210/22 howitzer in 210 mm caliber. It was a comparatively advanced gun . 346 howitzers were ordered, but only 20 were completed when the Italian surrendered in 1943. The German Wehrmacht took over these guns and continued production in the northern Italian factories until the end of the war. The gun was given the designation 210 mm Howitzer 520 (i) in the Wehrmacht , with the "i" standing for "Italian".

technology

The gun is of conventional design. The wheel carriage consists of four wheels. Two spreader bars give the gun stability. To fire, the wheels are raised and pushed over a floor plate. The cradle and return pipe were designed in such a way that even when a shot was shot from the highest elevation, the base could not touch the ground.
