Hauptstrasse 110 and 108 (Bergheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The two houses on Hauptstrasse 110 and 108 (also called "The Ox-Eye House and the Owl House") are historically valuable buildings and are located in the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Ox-eye house

Two ox eyes look down at the visitors from the gable. The house at Hauptstrasse 110 is a two-storey plastered building from 1828 with a gateway facing the Aachener Tor. A stone above the door indicates the year of construction. The four-axis gable side has corner pilasters at the edges. We also know a lot about the earlier building and its inhabitants. The baker Reiner Linden lived in this house in 1799. His daughter Anna Elisabeth married Josef Reiner Löhr, a baker from Mülheim, in 1815. Since their marriage, Josef Reiner Löhr ran the bakery trade in his father-in-law's house in Bergheim. In 1828 he rebuilt house No. 110.

Owl house

The neighboring house no. 108 dates from around 1900. Today it houses the consumer center. As photos from the first half of the 20th century show, the entire facade originally had a pronounced plaster decoration and thus contributed to the decoration of the row of houses. Unfortunately, only the roof gable facing the street has survived. The gable of the old facade was crowned by an owl sculpture about 50 centimeters high. That is why this house was called "Ühlehuus", owl house. The facade fell victim to a bombing raid during World War II.
