House Fichtengrund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The house Spruce reason is a former house on the western outskirts of the Brandenburg town of Templin . It is part of the Waldhof settlement . The house is known because the German Chancellor Angela Merkel grew up there.

history

The house was built in 1891 when the association for the upbringing of morally neglected children was relocated from its building near the Prenzlauer Tor to its current location at the gates of the city. Since 1913 the site has been called "Waldhof". In 1958 the care of boys with behavioral problems was stopped on the site because the government of the GDR no longer allowed church institutions to take on educational tasks.

The "Fichtengrund House" was built as a two-story red brick building. In 1957 the Protestant pastor Horst Kasner moved into the apartment on the first floor with his wife Herlind and their two children Angela and Marcus. At the request of Albrecht Schönherr, Kasner was to set up a church training center on the site. Angela Merkel spent her early childhood and all of her school days in the house before going to Leipzig to study in 1973 .

Today the original brick facade is plastered over and painted green and yellow. It houses apartments, a workshop and a school for the disabled. The former apartment of the Kasner family has been divided and now consists of several residential units. The house belongs to the Stephanus Foundation Waldhof.
