The Ostwig house is located in the municipality of Bestwig in the Ostwig district in the Sauerland.

history

The Ostwig estate was first mentioned in 1200 in a document from the Meschede monastery . In 1299, Count Ludwig von Arnsberg exchanged the manor Gevelinghausen for Gut Ostwig with the Mescheder Stift . In the 15th century, the Rump family expanded it into a manor. Around 1500, however, it first passed into non-aristocratic ownership. In 1539 Johann von Hanxleden zu Anröchte acquired the estate and also took up residence here. In the 17th century the Ostwig house was converted into a representative manor house. In 1699 the property was combined with the Borg and Brockhausen houses. With the extinction of the Ostwiger line of Hanxleben, the property passed to the family of the Barons von Lüninck in 1771 . In the house were Ferdinand Freiherr von Lüninck and his brother Hermann Freiherr von Lüninck born.
