The listed Haus Schwickering belongs to Rorup in the city of Dülmen and is located between Rorup and Coesfeld-Lette.

history

The manor house was first mentioned in 1359 and originally built as a moated castle. It was owned by the von Wiedenbrück-Schorlemer family, who are considered to be the builders. An alliance coat of arms on the house creates a link to the family. The Lords of Schwicker were first mentioned in 1435. The current brick building dates from 1811, the plastered extension from 1830. The resident was the first bailiff of the Rorup-Lette administrative district, Josef von Wiedenbrück, between 1816 and 1853. The von Heyden family also lived there.

At the beginning of the 1920s, the house, which had since fallen into disrepair, was converted into a summer residence for an industrialist by Emil Fahrenkamp . In the 1960s a children's home was set up, which was also used for some time as a rest home for religious sisters. The architecture office Kleihues + Kleihues has had one of its locations in Haus Schwickering since 1973 .
