House of Fatherland in Erfurt

The Vaterland House in Erfurt , the capital of Thuringia , is located at Government Street 72. The Vaterland House , the former Weimar escort house in Erfurt, houses the European Information Center and the offices of the Thuringian State Chancellery . The building is a protected monument .

history

The building was previously called Haus zum Güldenen Stern or Schwarzburger Hof (1572). It served as the electoral Saxon escort house from 1605 to 1802 . From 1904 it served as the Haus Vaterland inn .

description

The building complex consists of six houses that enclose two courtyards inside. The core of the main house is a high medieval bower , the unusual size of which suggests that it was used by the Margraves of Meissen . During the Prince's Congress in 1808, Goethe and Duke Carl August lived here .
