Haus Visbeck near Dülmen is a former manor, of which some of the buildings and the Marienkapelle still exist today.

history

Marienkapelle near Haus Visbeck

As early as 1186 the house was mentioned as Villa Visbeck as a fief in the land register of the Werden monastery. Since 1338 the Lords of Visbeck owned the complex, which was now used as a manor - a defense structure on two islands. The family of the Lords of Visbeck died out in 1540 and the buildings found other owners, most recently the Droste zu Vischering family , who owned it until the 20th century.

The Marienkapelle dates from the 18th century and is therefore significantly younger than the Visbeck house itself. Its builder was Johann Conrad Schlaun .

Today Haus Visbeck is privately owned and is used for horse breeding and partly as a holiday home.

location

Haus Visbeck is located southeast of the city of Dülmen near the federal highway 474. It belongs to the parish of Dülmen and is part of the Daldrup peasantry.

Surroundings

Remains of the former Krupp shooting and testing range near Haus Visbeck

In the immediate vicinity of the Visbeck house there are two remarkable systems:

  • The former nuclear weapons site, the Dülmen-Visbeck special ammunition storage facility, which is now used as a storage facility for fireworks. In the 1980s, the camp was often a target of the peace movement. Construction of the camp began on April 25, 1963 and was completed on September 22, 1965.
  • The former shooting and testing area of the Krupp cast steel factory in Essen. The shooting range was the first to be set up by a private individual - Alfred Krupp - but was only in use for a few years. It was opened in 1873, but was no longer used in 1878 because it had become too small. In 1887, all properties were finally sold again. Two walls surrounding laboratories are clearly visible from the shooting range.
