House of Government (1969)

The House of Government in Alma-Ata (now Almaty ) is the former seat of the government of the Kazakh SSR . The building is now used by the Kazakh Academy of Arts . It was built from 1928 to 1931 according to designs by the architects Moissei Ginsburg and Ignati Milinis and is one of the most important works of constructivism .

The building is now in a very different and structurally poor condition. The originally large window areas, which were supposed to symbolize the openness and transparency of the Bolshevik government, have now been narrowed to small ribbon windows.
