The House of Regions in Krems-Stein is a historic inn, which today serves as the seat of the Lower Austrian folk culture , as an event location and cultural center with a focus on European regional culture. The House of Regions is a location of the Culture.Region.Lower Austria .

history

The oldest core of the building dates back to the 15th century. A guest establishment, first documented in writing in 1721, emerged from medieval town houses. After the establishment of the first Danube steamship line in 1837, the famous Gasthof Zum golden Elephanten was located here . During the revitalization carried out in 2004, historical vaults and part of a medieval wall, probably part of the old Steiner city wall, were exposed inside the building. The centerpiece of the house is the two-storey event hall from the Biedermeier period with a ceiling painting in the Art Deco style from the interwar period . Historic marble arcades can be found in the stairwell.

The House of Regions is a location of the Culture.Region.Lower Austria and the seat of the following institutions:

  • Folk culture europe
  • Museum management Lower Austria

The two-story event hall and the fireplace room are regular venues for concerts, lectures and panel discussions.

Gallery of the Regions

In the Gallery of the Regions, products from small craft businesses from Lower Austria and the European regions presented in-house are offered. The selection of products is based on the quality of the craftsmanship and the traditional relationship to the region in which the goods are produced.
