House servant thaler

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hausknechtstaler is a variant of the Wildemannstaler , i. H. a taler coin , which shows a special form of the wild man . In most of the Wildemannstalers, the wild man holds a rather bare conifer in his right hand that rests vertically on the ground. With the Hausknechtstaler, the wild man holds the conifer across and tilted slightly downwards like a broom in front of him. The name of the coin is a derision for this type of domestic labor that the wild man appears to be doing.

Hausknechtstaler were first minted in 1643 under August II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel in the Zellerfeld mint .
