Haya ( OluHaya , also Ziba ) belongs to the Haya-Jita subgroup of the Bantu languages spoken in Tanzania south and west of Lake Victoria .
The number of the Haya-speaking ethnic group of the same name was estimated at 1,300,000 in 2006. Their historical empire in this area was Buhaya .
