Hazit Ha'Moledet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chasit ha-Moledet ( Hebrew חֲזִית הַמּוֹלֶדֶת 'Front der Heimat / Home Front' ) was a Zionist paramilitary group that operated exclusively in Jerusalem after its predecessor Lechi disbanded with the establishment of the State of Israel on May 15, 1948.

The name Chasit ha-Moledet goes back to a letter of confession that the group distributed after their assassination attempt on Count Folke Bernadotte . Bernadotte was the first official UN envoy to Israel and Palestine. He had tried to negotiate a peace agreement between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab countries neighboring Israel. In a letter from the Israeli Provisional Government on September 20, 1948, "Chasit ha-Moledet" and Lechi were identified as terrorist organizations .
