It belongs to the monument complex of the Oberpostdirektion and is a listed architectural monument. The building was originally built for the post office as a single home for post office workers. On the property between Herbartstrasse and Dernburgstrasse there is a front house in Herbartstrasse and a rear house. It was named after the first chairwoman of the Berlin district association of the Reichspost and telegraph officials, Hedwig Rüdiger .

history

Front building in Herbartstrasse

The building site was given to the association by the Deutsche Reichspost for a hundred years under heritable building rights . The building was built in 1924/25 by the chief post office building officer Otto Spalding for the post office as a single home for post office workers and moved into in 1925. Two officers shared an apartment, they shared a kitchen, but each had their own room, their own small bathroom and their own bell. Due to its brick facade and the exclusively female residents, the complex is known in Berlin as the “Drachenburg”, which characterizes both the castle-like structure and the residents.

The front building on Dernburgstrasse was destroyed during the Second World War and not rebuilt. After that it served as a green area. In 2015, an apartment building with 26 condominiums and an underground car park was built at this point, called the Drachenburg Lietzensee residential building . The client "Primus 4. - Primus 9. GbR c / o Primus Immobilien AG" had the construction of the new building with a gross floor area of 3180 m² begin in 2013 with a volume of € 5,800,000.

description

The front building can be attributed to Expressionism . The back and the side wing are much simpler. The rear building was built at the same time, most of the design elements are missing here. Only the east side and the top floor with the gable show some typical features.
