Yeast Extract Peptone Glucose

Yeast extract-peptone-glucose medium, abbreviation ( HPG ) better known under the English name plate count agar , is a liquid or solid complex nutrient medium for bacteria. It contains 2.5 g / L yeast extract , 5.0 g / L peptone , 1 g / L glucose in water. The pH is between 7.0 and 7.4. Solidified by adding 15-20g / L agar , it is often used to determine the number of living organisms. It is an unselective complete medium for testing sterility or for determining the number of cells in water, milk and other liquid foods.
