"Heil dir, Hannover" was a national anthem in the Kingdom of Hanover , sung to the tune of God Save the Queen .

The song was one of the numerous German royal and state anthems based on the melody of the British royal anthem of the 19th century. Instead of “Heil dir, Hannover”, “Heil dir, Ernst August ” (King of Hanover from 1837 to 1851) or “Heil unserm König” was sung.
