Heilberg (desert)

Heilberg is a deserted area on the southern edge of the Laufen am Kocher district in the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen in the Schwäbisch Hall district in northeastern Baden-Württemberg .

Geographical location

The lost place was about 0.8 km southeast of the hamlet of Rübgarten and about 1.3 km west-southwest of the hamlet of Wengen at an altitude of about 450  m above sea level. NHN on the ridge of Heilberg between the Harzklinge in the north-northwest and the valley of the longer Krempelbach in the south-southeast, two left tributaries of the upper Kocher . Today (2019) there is a meadow area surrounded by forest of little more than 2 hectares with a few scattered trees in them and a small shed in the shade of a somewhat larger group of trees in the middle of the clearing. Along its north-northeast narrow side runs a developed forest path that connects the two aforementioned hamlets of Laufen.

history

The place was initially called Hülenberg and fell desolate before 1510. It was repopulated in 1606, but after 1634 it was deserted again. In 1701 it was laid out again. In 1842 the state acquired the property and reforested around it, the remaining forest ranger's house fell victim to a fire in 1903. All that remains is the clearing described above.

Maps from the middle of the 19th century show a small settlement area labeled Heilberg at the deserted site . According to the area drawing, the ridge of the same name was still open all the way from a little west of today's clearing boundary to its spur tip directly above the drop in the Kocher valley.
