Holy Trinity (Nymphenburg)
Holy Trinity are a church consecrated to the Trinity and a monastery of the Congregatio Jesu (Englische Fräulein) on Maria-Ward-Strasse in Munich's Nymphenburg district in Germany .
History and description
The extensive complex, consisting of several monastery buildings with atrium-like enclosed courtyards, was built between 1960 and 1964 and designed by the architect Josef Wiedemann . The round shape of the interior is characteristic of the monastery church, with which the monastery community implemented new liturgical ideas at an early stage, which only became common property with the Second Vatican Council . The altar is freestanding in the middle of the church. The rows of pews surround the altar. Particularly noticeable is the 12-fold roof (inside with spruce wood), which is reminiscent of a tent. 12 triangular windows give a view of the sky and the surrounding trees. Below is a concrete ring with a mosaic band that is supported by 12 slender columns. The mosaic made of split natural stones was designed by Elisabeth Hofmann-Lacher.
In the church there are several carving works of art by Sister Bernardine Weber , e.g. B. a way of the cross, the founder of the order Maria Ward and at Christmas time a nativity scene. The colored concrete-glass wall in the sacrament chapel was also designed by B. Weber.
In the exterior view, the church building shows a square outline with a fan-like roof in a timber frame construction.
