Location of the Pandion (No. 14) on the Athens Acropolis

The Sanctuary of Pandion , also called Heroon des Pandion , was located on the southeast corner of the Athens Acropolis , about 25 meters east of the Parthenon . Judging by the foundations and rock excavations that have meanwhile been built over by the Acropolis Museum, it was a rectangular area enclosed by walls. It was about 3.80 meters below the Parthenon Plateau. The uncovered, about 40 meters long and 17.50 meters wide complex was oriented northwest-southeast and divided into two areas by a wall: the actual sanctuary in the west, a workshop, Ergasterion , in the east. A gate in the south wall led into the eastern part, while the western area was entered through a propylon adorned with columns. A previous building, the remains of which are preserved to the east, was used for the construction of the acropolis wall of the 5th century BC. And apparently made the new building around 430 BC. Necessary.

The sanctuary housed a statue of Pandion , phylenheroe of an Attic phyle and mythical king of Athens. It is possible that the members of the Phyle Pandionis also celebrated the Pandia , a festival dedicated to Zeus , in this sanctuary .

The sanctuary of Pandion was formerly located southeast of the Propylaea .
