Healing wool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Healing wool is natural sheep wool with residual fat content. It contains wool wax (lanolin), which has skin-caring properties. Normally, the lanolin has to be removed for further processing of wool. This is done by washing in hot water with the addition of soda. Healing wool, however, is washed only in a maximum of 50 ° C warm water and carded . It is traditionally used for inflammatory and weeping wounds, inflamed nipples from breastfeeding , diaper rash and pressure ulcers . On the North Sea coast the farmers put natural sheep's wool in their ears as protection against the wind; compared to washed wool, raw wool causes less skin irritation in the ear.
