Local history museum "Uns olle Schaul"

The local museum "Uns olle Schaul" is located in the seaside resort Zempin on the island of Usedom . The Heimatverein Zempin e. V. opened it in December 2000 on the premises of the former school in Zempin. Here exhibits and documents are on display that describe the history and culture of the community and its inhabitants. Special emphasis is placed on the history of fishing, the life and work of the painter Hugo Scheele and the preservation of a historic shop from 1928.

building

The school building is the third of its kind from 1928. Historical documents mention the first school building as early as 1762 in Dorfstrasse 1. The first teacher known by name was the tailor Michael Hellert, whose name is recorded in the books of the Koserow church as early as 1756 . He was allowed to live rent-free and let his cattle graze on the community meadows for free. The second school building was built in 1834. It had a classroom for all children and a teacher's apartment. According to the school chronicle, the first schoolhouse became a poor house. The inauguration of the third and last school building took place on August 13, 1928. It had two classrooms in the left part of the building. The teacher's apartments were in the right part of the building. The school ran until 2000. On July 19, 2000, the proverbial “last” day of school took place in this building. All three buildings are still there. The first two are now residential buildings. In the third building, the former teacher's apartments also serve as rental apartments.

The history of fishing in Zempin is highlighted in the first classroom. A special highlight are the handcrafted boat models by the fisherman Konrad Teuert. He only started building the models for the Heimatverein when he was 80 years old. 35 impressive and functioning models were created from fruit trays, tin cans, wallpaper strips and fishing material in a good 10 years.

The second classroom serves as a gallery for the pictures by the painters Wolfgang Max , Hugo Scheele and Kurt Heinz Sieger as well as a lecture room for films, lectures and presentations.

The hallway and the staircase are adorned with four head-high ceramic paintings by the painter Rosa Kühn , a student of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein . They date from 1986 and represent the four seasons.

The second classroom leads to part of the former teacher's apartment. This is where Karl Schichlein’s historic grocery and delicatessen shop is located, whose business existed until 1996.
