The Heimatmuseum in Stuttgart-Möhringen was opened in 1936 on the main floor of the hospital courtyard of the Esslingen Katharinenhospital , built in 1469 .

After the building was badly damaged in 1944, the house was demolished in 1959. In 1962 the museum was reopened in a new building with the old facade. In addition to prehistoric and early historical finds, the museum mainly houses evidence of local history: views of Möhringen, documents on the history of the club, a fire engine from around 1850, the Anna Peters (1843–1926) picture collection and memorabilia from the chamber singer August Kies (1874–1935). In addition, furnishings, household items, tools (flax processing), textiles and certificates from the curriculum vitae ( sponsorship letters ) from Möhringen's rural past are shown.

The Heimatmuseum belongs to the museum family of the Stuttgart City Museum and offers special exhibitions on topics of local history on a regular basis. School classes and groups of interested parties can use it at any time by arrangement. Volunteers from the Möhringen - Fasanenhof - Sonnenberg ILM eV initiative run the museum.

Admission is free.

building

The Möhringer Spitaltor was built in 1589 between a wine press and a barn on the Spitalhof. In 1911 it survived an earthquake that destroyed the barn next to it. The barn was then replaced by a residential building, which still exists today and is a listed building together with the gatehouse.
