Heinfried Schumacher

Heinfried Schumacher (born January 26, 1953 in Bremen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament.

After attending secondary school in Syke, Schumacher completed a two-year agricultural apprenticeship . He attended a technical college for agriculture in Hanover and one for social work in Syke. He then studied social work in Bremen and worked for the district of Nienburg an der Weser from 1979 until his election to the state parliament in 1998 .

Schumacher has been a member of the SPD since 1974. He was from 1976 to 1991 and again from 2001 in the city council of Syke. He was also a member of the Diepholz district council from 1977. From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament. In 2006 he defeated the incumbent in the election for mayor Syker Harald Behrens in the runoff .
