Heinrich Altherr (born September 2, 1909 in Gais ; † August 26, 1993 in Herisau ; resident in Urnäsch ) was a Swiss teacher and dialect writer from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Heinrich Altherr was married to Alina Knechtle. He attended the schools in Gais and later the teachers' seminar in Kreuzlingen . From 1930 to 1945 he worked as a primary school teacher in Waldstatt and Herisau, where he taught until 1976. He worked on the commission for school and youth books. After his retirement he was editor of the Appenzell calendar from 1976 to 1988 .

In his books for young people, Heinrich Altherr revealed a “special empathy for the world of adolescents” ( Ferdi , 1944). Later works such as Oeser Gattig Lüüt (1954) and Sonnesits ond schattehalb (1979) show him as a “masterful narrator in Appenzell dialect”. To mark the 450th anniversary of the Land of Appenzell joining the federal government, Heinrich Altherr, who was very active in the cultural community in his shared apartment, wrote the Appenzell, the Land Festival (1963, together with Hans Meier).
