Heinrich Herzog (circus director)

Heinrich Herzog (* 1827 ; † 1893 in Riesbach ) was a German circus director .

Life

Herzog trained as a circus director at Circus Wollschläger , was then employed by Ernst Renz in the circus and married Ernestine Johanne Renz (born September 10, 1830). In 1871, when the German Empire was founded, he founded a circus with Max Schumann (1853–1933). In 1879 the Herzog circus was looking for the strongest Bavarian and poster this campaign across Bavaria. Hans Steyrer was hired and performed alongside a tightrope dancer and Louise Renz with a horse act. From 1888 to 1893 there was a stand of the Circus Herzog in Riesbach according to plans by Conradin Zschokke and Cie, a light wooden construction with a main building for the circus arena and ancillary buildings with stables. In 1888 Frank Wedekind traveled for six months as a secretary with the Herzog circus and, after its dissolution, went on tour with fire painter Rudinoff through England and southern France. In 1890 he returned to Munich with Rudinoff.
