Heinrich Theodor Grütter (* 1957 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German historian and cultural scientist . He is director of the Ruhr Museum in Essen , member of the board of the Zollverein Foundation and honorary professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Live and act

Heinrich Theodor Grütter studied history, German language and literature, education and archeology at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1976 to 1986. In addition to academic positions at the University / GH Essen 1987 and the Ruhr University Bochum from 1989 to 1991, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen in 1997 .

From 1992 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2007 Heinrich Theodor Grütter was a research assistant at the former Ruhrland Museum in Essen and, as project manager, played a key role in the construction and permanent exhibition of the new Ruhr Museum at Zollverein from 2008 to 2011. Since January 1, 2012 he has been director of the Ruhr Museum and since October 1, 2017 board member of the Zollverein Foundation. In addition, Heinrich Theodor Grütter has been a permanent lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen since 1986. In addition to the history of the Ruhr area, his research focuses on the subject areas of theory and didactics of history, museology, historical representation, and culture of history and remembrance. In 2013 Heinrich Theodor Grütter was appointed honorary professor from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

In addition to his full-time activities, Heinrich Theodor Grütter is a member of numerous committees, including the Board of Trustees of the NRW Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the Hamburg Museums Foundation, the scientific advisory boards of the History of the Ruhr Area Foundation, the Fritz Hüser Institute for the Literature of the Working World, of Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH as well as on the boards of the Forum Geschichtskultur an Ruhr and Emscher and the historical association Stadt und Stift Essen.
