Helene von Weimar-Orlamünde

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helene von Weimar-Orlamünde was abbess of the Hof monastery from 1435 to 1465 .

Helene von Weimar-Orlamünde came from a late sideline of the Counts of Weimar-Orlamünde and was one of the last namesake of the family. She was a daughter of Count Otto X. at Lauenstein Castle and Lukardis, née von Gera .

Contrary to the representation of previous researchers, who assume three Orlamünder countesses as abbesses in the court of the 14th century, today's researchers only confirm Helena and date her work to the 15th century.

In 1415, Helene is mentioned as a nun in Hof in the family list of the Counts of Orlamünde according to Reitzenstein and her term of office as Abbess is correctly reproduced. Accordingly, she still had a sister Anna who was a nun in Ilm and Hof.
