Otto X. Graf von Weimar-Orlamünde , according to another counting method Otto VII. With the addition of the name vor dem Walde († 1403 in Ludwigsstadt ), came from the Counts of Weimar-Orlamünde and had extensive possessions in what is now the border area between Thuringia and Upper Franconia.

Life

Otto X. came from a late branch of the Ascanian counts, who lost their county to the Wettins at the end of the 14th century . He was the son of Friedrich II. (III.) Von Orlamünde-Lauenstein (-1357/1367) and Sophie von Schwarzburg -Blankenburg (-1388), a descendant of Hermann III. With the grandson of Otto X, the Brandenburg Privy Councilor Friedrich VI. († after 1486), and his daughter Katharina († after 1544), a nun in the Heiligkreuz monastery near Saalburg , died the last bearers of the family's name.

He had extensive possessions u. a. at the transition from the Thuringian Slate Mountains to the Franconian Forest , via estates in Lichtenberg , Magdala and Graefenthal (1387). He was lord of Lauenstein Castle and Schauenforst Castle (1394). His epitaph shows him elegantly dressed. It is located in Ludwigsstadt.

Otto X. was married (around July 8, 1395) to Lukardis von Gera (* 1335; † between May 16, 1399 and August 18, 1415), daughter of Heinrich V., Vogt and Lord of Gera (1308-1377) and Countess Mechtild von Käfernburg (1302–1376). They had the following offspring:
